My name is Skye Stephenson, and I write about sacred stones as active participants in our collective landscapes and lives. I am especially interested in the interconnection between Stone-beings and Mother Earth herself. Many myths and stories reflect this sacred truth, which too often has been overwritten, repressed and even in some cases outlawed by forces and institutions in modern-day society. I hope through my writing to help bring to light this perennial wisdom as a contribution to our collective healing at this pivotal time on Planet Earth.
I am currently working on a book about leadership stones in Scotland and Western Europe. In 2024, I received a Mary Elvira Stevens travel grant from Wellesley College to visit Scotland to further this project. I have several other books and articles also in process. I have studied Creative Non-Fiction and recently completed a Nature Writing course under the auspices of Granta magazine.
I hold a doctorate from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University and spent three decades in academia developing and overseeing international education programs in Latin America and elsewhere. During this period, I wrote a book and various articles about culture(s). I also taught courses for university students and led multiple workshops for members of my local community and beyond.
A highlight of this period was serving on the Board of the Universidad Intercultural Amawtay Wasi in Ecuador for a decade. Founded by the same united indigenous group that sparked the Rights to Nature movement globally, this university was grounded on respect to Mother Earth and the gathering of wisdom (rather than merely intellectual knowledge). I currently serve on the Council of Advisors for Roots & Routes: Intercultural Collaborations. https://www.rootsroutes.org/mentor-team
I approach my writing with both a researcher’s focus of mind and as a sacred practice and experience of heart and soul. On this path of learning more about Stone-beings, I undertook rigorous training in crystal healing. I have also been blessed with guidance, training and initiation from several spiritual mentors to whom I am very grateful.
Astrology is one of my long-time hobby. I have dipped into Western, Vedic, Mayan, and Chinese astrology over the years. According to Mayan astrology, I was born on a day: Muluc. Meaning ‘Offering’. I think of my writing and, also, this website as a kind of offering to the world.
Here are photographs from my journeys to meet various Stones of Power around the world. Enjoy!
